Master Class Series: Bespoke vs. Commercial Design - A Designer’s Perspective on the Journey of a Sweater from Start to Finish

Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at 5:00 PM until 6:00 PMEastern Standard Time UTC -05:00

What is the origin point for knitwear design? Is it a vision of a finished garment, are the raw materials the sole inspiration or is the very act of creating a piece of knitted cloth enough to manifest into a garment that others want to own and wear? The truth is that all of these paths will lead to the successful expression of knitted attire. Surprisingly, the early stages of knitwear design developed by bespoke designers are not dissimilar to commercial brands. Professor Meghan Kelly will break down the design process for knitted clothing and describe the similarities and nuanced dissimilarities between custom and commercial design.

This session is designed for students interested in our master programs in both fashion & textiles and design.
